Why Does Amanda Teach So Many Instruments?
While I feel most at home teaching strings (violin and guitar were the first instruments I learned), I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. While completing this degree I passed competency tests on several instruments in each family. In fact, having a Single Subject Credential in Music allows me to teach any music class (Band, Orchestra, Choir, General) at any age level (Kindergarten through High School.)
Once I was hired at San Luis Obispo Coastal Unified School District I taught all beginning band instruments for 8 years, and then continued to teach at the middle school level for another 5 years. I taught for several years with the San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony, and coached high school chamber ensembles with the Sequoia Chamber Music Workshop. This all leads to my having very eclectic musical abilities, experience and taste which all contribute to my being well versed in so so many styles and techniques for many different instruments!
